Whether you're looking for a buggy for woodland walks or strolls on the high street, an all terrain pushchair with a great maneuverability will be the perfect choice. These types of models are typically equipped with large wheels and a suspension system that provides smooth riding on rough terrain.

Most are suitable for newborns and come with seats that can be positioned on a flat surface or a baby carrycot. These vehicles also come with tyres which never flatten, usually made of foam.

Suspension

A quality all-terrain pushchair should have a good suspension that is designed to be smooth and comfortable on rough terrain. This will help your child feel relaxed and at ease. The wheels are usually large and puncture-proof to prevent damage from sharp rocks or sharp sticks.

They are ideal if you reside in the countryside or walk regularly on rough, uneven terrain. They are typically more durable and sturdy than a regular pushchair, and have special features such as large wheels that are puncture-proof to handle the most difficult of surfaces. They are usually quite wide, and could be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces or aisles in shops.

It's suitable for babies from birth, and is compatible with an adaptor for the UPPAbaby infant car seat or carrycot (sold separately).

Many all-terrain pushchairs don't have seats that can be reversible, however the models like the Oyster 3 wheel double pushchair, Venicci Tinum and egg 2 do offer this option and both offer an excellent level of off-road performance and have an adequate weight limit for a 2 year old. Many pushchairs are categorized as all-rounders. They include the iCandy Pear, Bugaboo Cameleon and a few others. They can manage rough terrain in parks and National Trust locations, but lack the off-road capabilities of real all-terrain strollers.

There are also crossover models that are an excellent compromise between extreme off-road and high-street. They come with big wheels, excellent suspension, and are designed in a pushchair style, with the option of reversible seating as well as carrycots. Brands such as iCandy, Easywalker and Bugaboo have come up with some fantastic models to look at.

Wheels

All-terrain pushchairs are essential if you live in the countryside or take your child on regular walks through rough terrain. These models typically have bigger back wheels than regular pushchairs which makes them better at handling bumpy, off-road terrain and providing the most comfortable ride for your child. Many also come with a sturdy suspension and puncture-proof types which make them suitable for use on grass, woodland or trails or gravel tracks, as well as market town cobbles.

Look for a model with an excellent all-terrain capability, solid suspension and big puncture-proof wheels. However, they are designed in the traditional pushchair style with reversible seats as well as full carrycot options.

UPPAbaby's popular Ridge all-terrain pushchair is an excellent illustration of this. It offers excellent suspension, a simple fold, and a large 10kg basket.
